A .36 COLT MODEL 1861 NAVY PERCUSSION REVOLVER OF THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR, CIRCA 1861, in a later case, serial no. 4409,
with 7 1/2in. streamlined barrel, the top flat stamped 'ADDRESS COL. SAML. COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA', with underbarrel loading lever, six shot cylinder with faint scene and marked 'COLT'S PATENT NO 4409', open top frame stamped 'COLT'S PATENT', brass backstrap and trigger-guard and one piece walnut grips, all matching numbers including wedge, contained in a later worn and damaged red velvet lined and partitioned box, with modern replacement flask, nipple key and steel double cavity mould stamped on the sprue cutter 'COLT'S PATENT', one of the handles spuriously stamped 'U.S.N',

Provenance: The revolver comes with a Colt factory letter stating the pistol was made in 1861, the first year of production for this model, one of 200 delivered to the U.S. Navy Yard, Washington, D.C. on 31st December 1861
